U.S. CONGRESS – Today, U.S. Senator Martha McSally (R-AZ) received a commitment from Department of Defense leadership that they would partner with her to combat military sexual assault.
McSally asked for this commitment during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on Department of Defense budget posture with Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford.
“We have weeks now before the NDAA will be marked up before this committee. I am fully locked on like a missile on this target. I want to be working with you and the military services to take a fresh look at this,” McSally said. “So can I get your commitment that we are going to partner on this and we are going to take a fresh look and tackle this over the next 45 days together?”
McSally asked that the DOD be responsive to her questions, possibly form a team of experts, and hold a “Tank” meeting with all Pentagon leadership and four-star generals to discuss the issue of military sexual assault.
